It feels like only yesterday that Greggs announced they were launching a vegan sausage roll, and the world changed for the better. Launched during Veganuary, it was created in answer to the increasing demand for vegetarian and vegan products, and now fans of the ‘roll can rejoice, because Greggs are bringing it back for good.
The vegan version of Greggs’ iconic classic still consists of 96 layers of crisp puff pastry, but instead of standard sausage meat it’s stuffed with a bespoke Quorn filling.
The addition to the menu came partly due to public demand, in the form of a PETA petition, with over 20,000 signatures.
Roger Whiteside, chief executive at Greggs, said: “Like many food retailers we have seen increasing demand for vegetarian and vegan products. We have been trying to develop a Vegan version of our famous sausage roll for some time now.”
The vegan sausage roll will be coming to all of Greggs shops across the UK over the next few weeks.
