In this week’s ‘who asked for this?’ news, you can apparently now buy Marmite crunchy peanut butter at supermarkets nationwide, and we’re honestly not sure what to think. Available to buy at Sainsbury’s, Asda and through Ocado, the spread is made of about 90% nut butter and 10% yeast extract (aka Marmite).
The creators, Unilever, claim it has been “carefully crafted by the clever boffins in our Marmite lab to appeal to both Marmite fans and peanut butter lovers”, after they discovered that Marmite lovers were sharing homemade recipes online that mixed the yeast spread with peanut butter.
Unsurprisingly it’s causing controversy and dividing opinion on social media:
Personally, we’re very curious about this controversial mashup, and as lovers of both Marmite and peanut butter, we can picture how it would be a sweet, salty, crunchy mouthful. But saying that, it could be too ‘yeasty’ or too ‘peanut butter-y’. So, pass the toast and we’ll find out!
