14 of the most WTF outfits from the Grammys

We’re several shows deep into awards season – tbh it’s one of the only things getting us through winter – and last night was the turn of the Grammys, which certainly did not disappoint. Cardi B made history by becoming the first ever woman to take home the award for best rap album and Michelle Obama made a surprise appearance, but the best bit of the night was the red carpet full of outrageous looks that could only happen at the Grammys. Sure, there were some celebs in ah-mayzing outfits, but there was also some seriously WTF ones too; we’re looking at you Cardi B. So in true awards season style we’ve rounded up 14 of the worst-dressed celebs on this year’s red carpet. The library is open…

Cardi B

Cardi’s weird and wonderful outfits are well documented, but this was something else. Wearing vintage Thierry Mugler, Cardi was giving us serious Ursula from The Little Mermaid vibes and kind of looked like she was being birthed from a giant shell. We have to give her credit for boldness and never being boring though – this was quite a look.

Kylie Jenner

Kylie is never usually one to end up on worst-dressed lists, but this outfit rocketed straight to the top. Wearing a pink Balmain jumpsuit/pantsuit/straight jacket with built-in gloves, Kylie kind of looked like Michael Jackson. Maybe she was too busy planning Stormi’s first birthday party to think about her outfit?

Jennifer Lopez

J.Lo delivered the world one of the most iconic red carpets dresses ever at the 2000 Grammys – that green Versace dress – but her look last night was just very un-J.Lo. She rarely puts a fashion foot wrong but her Ralph & Russo ensemble was a bit strange, from the wide-brimmed hat to the crystal-encrusted collar. We have to respect her extra-ness, though.

A post shared by Ashanti (@ashanti) on

Sometimes we wish we could go out with our duvet wrapped around us, but it kind of looks like Ashanti actually did. The combination of a high necked velvet top, thigh high split and puffy gold crinkled skirt just wasn’t a winner for us. Sorry ‘bout it.

Singer St. Vincent looked like she could’ve been swallowed up by her enormous Giambattista Valli dress at any moment. It also looked like she could’ve made a pair of curtains/wallpapered a room from it. On the plus side it looks like there must’ve been plenty of room for any potential food bloat under there, and we respect that.

Hennessy Carolina

It seems like outrageous dressing runs in the family; Cardi’s sister Hennessy definitely takes the prize for biggest sleeves and brightest dress of the night. The risque tuxedo jacket/dress was certainly an odd choice, but on the plus side the colour looks incredible against her skin tone.

Katy Perry

Never one to shy away from a bold look, Katy Perry added another pink Balmain ensemble to the worst-dressed list. While the top half of the dress looks great, the cupcake/loofah skirt told a different story. It’s a no from us.

Tierra Whack

This is low-key hurting our eyes. Philly rapper Tierra Whack may have been nominated for best music video, but she certainly won’t be taking home any best-dressed awards in this psychedelic ‘Joseph’s Technicolour Dreamcoat’ look.

Tayla Parx

She may have co-written Thank U, Next, but we’re saying Thank U, Next to this outfit. The pink frill-covered dress was completely bonkers and paired with Converse it just looked even more childlike.

CeeLo Green

A post shared by Shani James (@shanijames77) on

CeeLo Green and his partner Shani James made quite the statement in their matching bedazzled outfits, with Shani even going the extra mile and bedazzling her lips. Something tells us you wouldn’t lose these two easily.

Andra Day

Someone should’ve told Andra that purple was last year’s Pantone colour of the year. Sporting this bizarre retro-inspired purple outfit complete with feathers, tights, suspenders and a bouffant hairdo, no one can say she didn’t commit to this look.

Whilst we’re living for the Barbie-esque colour of reggae artist Etana’s outfit, we think it was ruined by the fit, crystal embellishments and unnecessary train.

Lele Pons

No. Just no. From the tacky crystals to the bizarre train and the matching bedazzled boots, the Venezuelan singer’s outfit didn’t hit any of the right fashion notes.

Maren Morris

We really weren’t feeling this Galia Lahav gown on Maren; the oversized neon lime flower on her shoulder really overpowered the rest of the floral print gown.
